Visit Germany in Union County at Mifflinburg Christkindl Market

Once a year, the streets of Mifflinburg are transformed into a German Christmas market, and hundreds of folks call Christkindl Market a tradition.

MIFFLINBURG, Pa. — Market Street in Mifflinburg is usually filled with traffic, but for three days in December, it is lined with vendors selling food and crafts. This is Mifflinburg's 34th annual Christkindl Market.

"I love the Christmas atmosphere. It's almost like watching a Hallmark movie and being on the set," said Wendy Decker from Williamsport.

"The Christmas atmosphere! Our town is wonderful. It's just a wonderful community, and we welcome thousands of people to this, so it's just wonderful," Ruth Romig said.

Ruth and Mike Romig have been coming to Christkindl Market for a long time.

"We moved here in 1991, and I think we've only missed one year," Romig said.

But others, like Theresa Kaiser of Williamsport, are experiencing Christkindl Market for the first time.

"I had my picture taken with the Nutcracker, with Santa; I love it! The food smells so good. I don't know where I want to eat."

There are lots of different food options.

"Pierogies, steak sandwiches, Mr. Sticky, and things like that. All kinds of good stuff," Mike Romig said.

One soup stand prepared 100 gallons of chicken corn and 60 gallons of beef vegetable.

"They're very old recipes; they are one of the guy's grandfather's recipes that we use," John Heigen said.

"Even if you don't buy anything, you just walk around and eat or enjoy everybody's crafts; they're unique and lovely. I just love everything about it," Decker said.

Christkindl Market runs through Saturday in Mifflinburg.
