LEWISBURG, Pa. — After nearly a year of being under construction, there is music once again at Hufnagle Park in Lewisburg. The park reopened last month after being closed since last spring for renovations. On this day, officials and members of the community celebrated.
"Lewisburg Borough is thrilled to see the community come out today to support our endeavors and celebrate what we've been able to accomplish here," Shannon Berkey, the Lewisburg Community Development Grant manager, said.
The park is now ADA-accessible. The gazebo was replaced with a new event venue, with seating for more than 200 people.
"The seating area for audiences that are here is much larger. It's wider, so it's more comfortable for people to walk through," Bruce Jackson of Lewisburg said.
People are excited about the renovations.
"I live not far from here. I walk through here every day, so it's really good," Jackson said.
"It's stunning. This is so nice, and there's a rail which is new. It's a nice place to come. It's really pretty," Sherry Reuther of Milton said.
The nearly $3 million project was paid for with federal grant money.
"When COVID hit, we took the opportunity to go after the funding that supported the initiative of putting together a social gathering space," Berkey said.
People will have plenty of chances to experience the new venue in action. Events are lined up throughout the summer at Hufnagle Park.
