Christmas Greenery on the Auction Block in Union County

BUFFALO TOWNSHIP, Pa. — We are a week away from Thanksgiving, but Christmas is already on the minds of many, especially Christmas tree farms.

BUFFALO TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- We are a week away from Thanksgiving, but Christmas is already on the minds of many, especially Christmas tree farms.

Tens of thousands of wreaths and evergreens will be on the auction block in Union County over the next two days.

Organizers call this the biggest Christmas tree auction in the world.

The two-day event starts with the wreath auction, where people bid on decor items.

Robin Richard of Mifflinville picked up wreaths. It's her first time at this event.

"Prices are right for resale. we'll put them up at our store in Montoursville," Richard said.

People come to this event from all over the east coast. Donald Reeves came all the way from Gadsden, Alabama. He bid on items to sell at his general store.

"We're going to get about 150, 200 trees. We already bought a bunch of wreaths and other decorations," he said.

Some people see the wreath auction as a preview for the main event, where more than 47,000 Christmas trees will be auctioned off.

There are Frasier fir, Douglass fir, blue spruce, and a lot more. They are sold in bundles at wholesale prices. Many Christmas tree stands you see each year get their trees from this auction.

Chris and Bob Kindon are from the Williamsport area and say the auction puts them in the Christmas spirit.

"It's nice to come here and see all these different displays of whatever a farmer or landowner can present," Bob Kindon said.

The Christmas tree auction starts at 8 a.m. Friday at the produce auction near Mifflinburg.
