MIFFLINBURG, Pa. — From soaps to stained glass jewelry to blacksmithing—a wide variety of handmade products are available at the Artisan Corner Co-Op in Mifflinburg.
More than a dozen artists work out of the co-op. The shop is celebrating its grand reopening this weekend.
"I do wine bottle wind chimes, which I'm most proud of, where I cut the bottles and do the sails. We have a photographer. We have a fine artist. We have a folk artist," said Karen Teichman, the co-op manager. "It is a true cooperative. We do pay our rent for our space, but rather than paying commissions, everybody works. We're all a team."
What makes this shop unique is everything is handmade in Pennsylvania. All of the artists are from northeastern and central Pennsylvania.
Donna Rearick and her husband are from Williamsport and do woodworking.
"We started out just going to local craft shows in the Williamsport area, and we met another crafter that was part of the co-op at the time. She invited us to come down and check it out, so we did, and three years later, we're still here," Rearick said.
The artists hope people will shop locally this year when it comes to Mother's Day.
"I think it's perfect timing," Rearick said. "We have perfect gifts for mothers, a wide variety of things that people can come in and purchase."
The grand reopening celebration continues Saturday from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m.
