Slushy conditions in Susquehanna County

Newswatch 16's Elizabeth Worthington has a look at the road conditions in Susquehanna County.

SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY, Pa. — The snow and slush make for sloppy road conditions in the northern tier on Tuesday.

Newswatch 16's Elizabeth Worthington was in different parts of Susquehanna County to look at the conditions there.

Away from the whipping wind blowing the snow sideways, you'll find refuge inside Arlo's Country Store near Union Dale.

"Coffee, and then the tavern in the back later in the day," A.J. Gallagher said, describing what his shop offers.

Traveling north meant traveling toward a heavier dose of winter weather.

"You expect it up here. There could be no snow in Scranton, but we have it up here," Gallagher said.

But even just ten miles south, still in Susquehanna County, it's a different story. There was far less wind in Forest City. The borough got a couple of inches of snow, normally something residents here wouldn't bat an eye at.

"Normally," said contractor Christopher Lee. "If it was a normal winter."

We were on track to potentially have one of the least snowy Februarys on record, but Mother Nature had other plans.

February couldn't go out without at least one decent snowstorm.

"Well, I knew we were going to pay for all the nice weather," said Forest City resident Robert Wagner.

While some people may have missed the sight of flakes falling or snow on the ground, we can probably all agree there's one thing we didn't miss this winter.

"I don't miss this!" Wagner said as he shoveled.

Shoveling the sidewalk for two hours is not Robert Wagner's favorite way to spend the morning.

Or, in Christopher Lee's case, "all day."

Even though there's another snowstorm on the horizon at the end of the week, people here are looking toward the light at the end of the tunnel.

Spring will be here soon enough.

"We're ready for it. St. Patrick's Day," Gallagher said.

"It's not here yet? Well then, I guess I got to look forward to it," Wagner joked.
