New men's halfway house opens in Susquehanna County

As Pennsylvania continues to battle the opioid epidemic, The Resurrection House is now a place in Great Bend for recovering addicts to get back on their feet.

SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY, Pa. — If you ride down Main Street in Great Bend, you will find The Resurrection House. It's a new halfway house for men. On Friday, Borough and county officials stopped by for an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony in Susquehanna County. It's just one of many ways co-owner Nick Colangelo says the community has welcomed the halfway house with open arms.

"They've been very mature and open about what they believe the problems are in our society today, and they're thrilled to have a solution in their community,' says Nick Colangelo, The Resurrection House Co-Owner.

The Resurrection House will offer housing, counseling, employment services, and other important resources to men recovering from substance abuse. Colangelo says a halfway house like this gives men a better chance of successfully re-integrating into society.

The Chief Clinical Officer of The Resurrection House, Dave Enslin, says the halfway house gives men in recovery the resources and opportunity needed to ensure they're journey is as smooth as possible.

"It's hard to enjoy all the blessings of recovery if you're struggling with finding a place to live. If you don't have money. If you're struggling with some of those basic necessities," Enslin says.

President Judge Jason Legg says this is the first time Susquehanna County has an option like this for people in recovery. He believes the halfway house will help ensure people don't return to an unhealthy environment.

"It gives me the ability to put people in a structured environment where I know they're going to continue to get the treatment that they need. They're going to be surrounded by supportive people and they can continue on their recovery road," Legg says.

The Resurrection House is currently interviewing potential residents.
