Flooding affects Susquehanna neighborhood

Newswatch 16's Valeria Quiñones spoke with residents in Thompson Borough who say they have never seen a storm like this one.

SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY, Pa. — The remnants of Tropical Storm Debby flooded a neighborhood in Thompson Borough. Fields and roadways were transformed into a raging river rushing from all directions.

"It was probably waist deep back there, and it was rushing like faster than I could ever picture it," said Bree Ahl, flood victim.

Bree Ahl says her neighbors, born and raised in Thompson, have never seen anything like this after a storm.

"The water was about here, but luckily it didn't come through my windows. I mean my one neighbor, he's lived here 60 years and he told me he has never seen a flood like this," added Ahl.

The water from the storm made its way through a crawl space in her basement. Leaving damage in its wake.

"The water was past the receptacles. So I actually had to have an electrician come in today and fix my breaker box because the water, it like ruined my breaker," said Ahl.

Replaceable things weren't the only things she lost in this flood.

"This is my senior yearbook. I'm trying to save it. I tried like I looked it up on YouTube. This is what they told me to do, and it's just going to be a couple times of doing this over and over until I can get it dry enough to stand up. So it's really the sentimental things that have my heart broke about this."

Now that Tropical Storm Debby is gone, her community is coming together.

"Oh! This street. I'm so blessed to live here because my neighbors are saviors. We really do, we band together in any type of you know hard times. So, yeah, it's been around the clock. Me and my neighbors did not sleep last night," said Ahl.

Residents hope this will be the first and last time their neighborhood will be flooded like this making this the only time for this type of clean-up.

"I was just in disbelief because I've never had a drop of water in this basement in three years, never. So for there to be a good foot and a half of water. It's insane," added Ahl.
