Businesses in Susquehanna County prepare for possible third week of flooding

With severe storms slated for the weekend, businesses are hoping the weather stays away.

CLIFFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — Several communities in Susquehanna County are still cleaning up the mess from recent severe storms while waiting for another one.

"But then the second one, it went all the way back to the counter, and it was mud," said Sandra Mowry.

She owns the Main Street Country Store along Route 106 in Clifford Township. Her store has been flooded twice in the last month, and she doesn't want to experience it again.

"You don't know whether you're gonna be able to get out of where you are, or you're gonna be able to get in, you know, to see if everything is still there or if it's laying in a pool of mud," said Mowry. "It's gonna take a long time before anybody's at ease around here."

"People are concerned. I just had two or three patients this morning that are worried about some of the rain that we're going to get this weekend," said Bill Wagner.

The last time Newswatch 16 spoke with Wagner at Wagner's Clifford Pharmacy, crews were busy cleaning mud and silt out of the parking lot and restocking the shelves.

"Flash flooding is just that it can happen at a moment's notice," said Wagner. "I was working here that day. Looked outside, and in five minutes, a wave of water came over."

Wagner hopes this weekend's expected severe storms stay away so that life can return to normal.

"We're open, and we're operational, and all the businesses are here," said Wagner. "Please don't drive around Clifford or stay away from Clifford. We're here to serve."
