SULLIVAN COUNTY, Pa. — A woman could spend more than a decade behind bars for the death of an infant in Sullivan County.
Officials say Brigitte Meckes, 49, did not have a medical license but served as a midwife for a baby born at a home back in January of 2022 and failed to seek medical care when the baby showed signs of severe distress. The child died about two days later.
Meckes was convicted in August of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, and related charges.
She was sentenced Tuesday to 8 to 17 years in prison.
