Winter's first snow covers Sullivan County

Newswatch 16's Mackenzie Aucker took a look at wintry conditions throughout Sullivan County.

DUSHORE, Pa. — A picturesque winter wonderland in Sullivan County. While traveling through Eagles Mere. Some were shoveling snow, while others were taking in the fun of the season's first snow.

"I've been skiing the backyard, having a wonderful time, now I'm out trying to do the chores of clean up," said John Ecker of Eagles Mere.

The flakes were flying. John Ecker measured the snow in a unique way and took in what old man winter had brought.

"This is a great snow day. Yeah, off work, and get to play in the snow and clean up," said Ecker.

Ecker says the snow is unexpected for this time of year, but it gets him out to greet everyone, just like the snowman in his front yard.

"Ran into everybody to do this so saying hello to neighbors and you hear the sound of generators in the background," said Ecker.

Hal Stockdill spent hours clearing the piles and piles of snow.

"This is a much heavier and a much wetter snow than I thought it was going to be. I probably should have been out here this morning when it was maybe half as much 'cause the snow blower is not happy," said Hal Stockdill, Laporte.

While the snow blanketed the trees, it was homes and businesses in the dark in Laporte that caused schools to cancel and forced businesses to close their doors. Downed utility lines were covered in wet, heavy snow. Stockdill knows a thing or two about winter storms and says he has experienced much worse.

"It's not as bad as the blizzard of 93, which you know closed everything down for a week, but we'll make this, and it's fun, you know," said Stockdill.

Many people we spoke with said that while they weren't quite ready for the November snow, they welcomed the snow day anyway.
