FORKSVILLE -- The Sullivan County Fair officially kicked off and people were really excited to celebrate 165 years of fun.
The family friendly event has everything from fair queen contest to homemade apple pie and ice cream contests, and of course, rides.
Noah Phillips of Dushore says since the fair is right before Labor Day weekend, it's a perfect sendoff before hitting the books for school.
"This is the last couple days to be free before back into the hot school," said Phillips.
One of the main events every year is the tractor pull. Tractors had to be weighed and inspected before they could even go on the track.
"They have tires that are cut to grab a hold of the track to get better bite and they put a lot of time and money into them. You can tell by their paint jobs and things like that," said organizer Nolan Chase.
People from our area, nearby upstate New York, and even Delaware and Maryland came out, vying for their chance at a trophy and bragging rights.

"It's a unique environment. The track has a right turn and you never see that anywhere else. I've pulled in the rain. I've pulled in the heat and it's always an interesting event," said Simpkins.
New this year, the fair is free for members of the military and veterans on Thursday. Officials tell Newswatch 16 it's important to give back to veterans who gave all.
"I'm a military veteran myself and I think it's important to provide them an opportunity to get out and relax for a day and not have to worry about what problems they may have," said organizer Devoron Wilcox.
The fair continues through Labor Day.
