SULLIVAN COUNTY, Pa. — Memorial Day is a time to remember and pay respect to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
That's exactly what people did all throughout Sullivan County.
"We don't want to forget these veterans. They've sacrificed and served our country, and today is a day to honor them and remember them so that their great deeds don't go in vain," Timothy Higley said.
There were parades and ceremonies all throughout Sullivan County, honoring the men and women who did not make it home.
"It's important to remember that we get all these wonderful things that we have because of those who fought and didn't come back," Rose Gumble said.
The parade started at the Mountain Ash Cemetery in Laporte. A large crowd gathered for the solemn ceremony.
"I come every year because I think it's a very important thing for people to remember all of the people who have served," Kathy Worthington said.
After that, there was a ceremony at Lopez Park. Each location featured a speaker and the Sullivan County High School Band.
The event continued with another ceremony at the Dushore monument. It finished at the Mildred American Legion.
"We honor in this community. It's a very tight-knit group and we honor our veterans in all their service and sacrifice," Higley said.
