'The Feed 50' | Snyder County family helping hungry folks in their neighborhood

A family from Snyder County is paying it forward this Thanksgiving by preparing dozens of meals for people in their community.

SNYDER COUNTY, Pa. — There's enough food on the Apple family's kitchen table to feed 50 people. But none of it is for Wendy Apple and her family from Mount Pleasant Mills.

For the third straight year, they made Thanksgiving dinner for people in their community. Three years ago, Wendy's son Nathan asked if they could do something to help people.

"I pondered over it, spoke to my husband about it, and said yeah, sure, we'll figure something out. You can't say no to your kid when they ask that kind of question," Wendy Apple said.

Wendy put the word out on social media, and donations rolled in. Her minister delivers the meals.

"This is his third year for helping. He has a list of people who he knows through the church and just going to visit people who are in need. They may have just lost a family member, they may not be able to afford a meal, they may be elderly and can't get out," Wendy said.

The Apple family prepared food for 50 people this year. They call it the Feed 50.

"It's a lot of work, but it pays for itself. The feeling that you get is unpriceable," Wendy said.

"It changes my heart," Nathan Apple said.

Recently, Ben Delp came to live with the Apple family. Wendy is his caretaker. Ben was happy to help prepare the meals.

"It's nice to give back because I used to be in the situation where I needed a meal and needed people to deliver things to me. It was kind of hard to find a place to eat and get a nice Thanksgiving meal," Ben Delp said.

Even after finishing these meals, Wendy doesn't have much time to rest. On Thursday, she will cook Thanksgiving dinner for 30 people.
