SNYDER COUNTY, Pa. — While most of us will be sitting around the table eating our Thanksgiving meals with friends and families, others will be spending the holiday a little differently.
"Just want to give to—give back to people; I tell anybody you're hungry, you're cold, you're in need, don't be afraid to ask somebody's always willing to help. I mean, as bad as this world can be there's decent people out there to help, that's just what we want to do is just help people," said Robert Lynch, volunteer.
For the fourth year, Wendy Apple and volunteers in Snyder County will be preparing Thanksgiving meals for over 500 people.
Apple started the annual giveaway by cooking 50 meals in her Mount Pleasant Hills kitchen. The meals are made possible through donations.
"Anything that people want to donate, like monetary donations, which is a very big help, so like Wendy said, in case we need something the day of, that's a very big help," said Kelly Hornberger, volunteer.
Apple's volunteers deliver the Thanksgiving meals all over Central Pennsylvania.
"There's definitely a big increase in difficulty to make this happen, but we're gonna get through it one way or another; like Wendy said, we gotta dig in our own pockets each of us, we've done it a lot, and we're just trying to make it happen, it will," said Lynch.
Robert Lynch, a first year volunteer, says even though he and others are putting smiles on peoples' faces this Thanksgiving, it's sad to see some aren't as fortunate as others.
"Nobody should be hungry, nobody should be homeless, our veterans, nobody, everybody should be taken care of in this country. I mean, we've got more than plentiful bounty, and people need to be taken care of, and we're just trying to help, but yeah, it's definitely a lot harder for the need for people, and it's heartbreaking," said Lynch.
Apple plans to do another dinner for Christmas.
