SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Boxes of donations fill a storage room at Liberty Basement Systems in Monroe Township near Selinsgrove.
The donations will soon head down south to help those who lost everything during Hurricane Helene.
"With this catastrophe this felt you know we both felt like we had to do something, we have to help and we're blessed with having the vehicles to be able to transport the stuff and have a large enough warehouse where we can store as much as people bring," said Dennis Deitrich owner of Liberty Basement System.
Dennis Deitrich owns Liberty Basement Systems. He's been collecting donations from family and friends, as well as other area businesses like Selinsgrove Dental Arts.
"We donated clothes, dishes, totes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, a little bit of everything," said Michelle Roads, Selinsgrove.
Deitrich, his business partner, and employees are leaving on Tuesday for the Asheville, North Carolina area. They will be taking as many truckloads of donations as they can. Deitrich plans to meet up with a childhood friend who owns a business that mixes martial arts and ministry.
"I think that's what a lot of people have to take into consideration. A lot of these people are not paid. They're volunteering their time and they're committing so much effort that you know they're from morning to night late hours," said Deitrich.
Since the collection began last week, many area businesses have stepped up to help out.
"It's a community effort. We're just, we're just blessed with a facility that's large. I'm blessed with a great team that I have here. Employees, a great team, and we just have the ability to transport some stuff there. Hopefully we run out and we need a lot more, we need help," said Deitrich.
Liberty Basement Systems will be accepting donations until Monday evening. Items that are top priority include flashlights, batteries, baby formula, and other baby products.
