MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS -- The Snyder County coroner was called Wednesday to the scene of a logging accident that killed a young man. It happened in Mount Pleasant Mills.
According to state police, Dayton Kratzer and his brother were clearing trees from a property in Mount Pleasant Mills when a tree rolled off the forklift and killed Kratzer.
It was a normal day at work for Kratzer, 21, of Beavertown, and his brother, until the unthinkable happened. The two were cutting down trees on a property on Millrace Road in Mount Pleasant Mills, west of Selinsgrove.
State police say a large log rolled off a forklift and hit Dayton's upper body.
Emergency responders got there quickly, but couldn't save him. Kratzer died in the back of the ambulance.
According to troopers, Kratzer and his brother were loggers. They were hired as private contractors to clear trees from the property.
Dayton Kratzer turned 21 just over one week ago.
