SELINSGROVE -- According to the latest study by Home Security Shield, Selinsgrove is one of the most dangerous communities in the Keystone State.
Number one is Chester, followed by Ambridge, New Castle, McKees Rocks, Harrisburg, and then York.
Number seven is Selinsgrove, a borough of about 5,700 people in Snyder County.
"No way, nope," reacted one resident.
"I actually thought it must be a joke and then the more I read, the more I realized it wasn't just an overt joke and wondered what in the world is going on?" said Ricki Stringfellow of Selinsgrove.
According to Home Security Shield, the rankings came from the FBI Uniform Crime Report and the communities were ranked by number of violent crimes per capita.
Annually, there are about 13 violent crimes for every 1,000 residents and there are 32 property crimes for every 1,000 residents.
"My wife and I have lived many places, but this is the least crime and the safest place that we have ever lived. This is a very quiet village and we have very little crime here. It's a big deal if you have some incident in this area," said Bruce Johnson.
"According to the crime statistics, a person has a one in 22 chance of becoming the victim of a crime in Selinsgrove.
"I would walk these streets at night, any street, any street here. I would walk there at night, probably at three in the morning and be safe," said Richard Kepner.
