SELINSGROVE, Pa. — More than three dozen high school girls spent the day at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove for Soroptimist International's Dream It Be It conference.
The girls are from Snyder, Union, and Northumberland Counties.
"They are selected because of obstacles they may be facing that would prevent them from furthering their education," Debra Reichenbach said.
The girls heard from speakers who discussed education and career opportunities.
"We work on building their confidence especially. We talk about overcoming obstacles," Reichenback said.
"Talking about career opportunities and women empowerment and how we can work on going over obstacles that a lot of women face in the workplace," Olivia Morgan said.
The girls say they found the speakers inspiring.
"There are a lot of personal stories of people talking about their own personal challenges they've experienced. Talking about how they've overcome it and how much better they are for it," Morgan said.
"I'm learning about how I want to go into a future career, what careers suit my personality type. That's really insightful because I'm a person who doesn't exactly know what I want to do," Kate Adamo said.
The girls tell Newswatch 16 they found the Dream It Be It conference helpful for their futures.
