BUFFALO TOWNSHIP -- A company based in Union County is in the process of moving to nearby Snyder County. The only problem? Some of the company's equipment weighs more than eight tons.
Timberhaven Log and Timber Homes is a log and timber company currently located near Lewisburg, but the company that makes log homes is leasing this property and is in the process of moving its business to the Middleburg area.
"We'll have 20-plus acres there. It will give us the opportunity to eventually put up a model and continue to grow our business," owner Lynda Tompkins said.
But moving an entire company is a long process, especially when two of the machines weigh more than 11 tons combined.
"Well you sort of have to come up with a plan to move all this stuff, but as you are moving it you find out the original plan usually doesn't work," Tom Ross said.
The laminator machine was the first to make the 25-minute drive to Snyder County.
Tompkins says the machine costs around $50,000 and weighs 3.5 tons.
"Plus it's a little over 10 and a half feet high on its own, so as you're moving it you have to worry about your clearances," Tompkins said.
It took several hours to take the machine apart and load it onto the truck.
"Some of the stuff is a little tricky, especially when you have some delicate machines like you have here. You have to be extra careful and it all has to be reassembled so we have to make sure we don't bend anything or mess it up," Ross said.
The machine was carefully tied down and ready to move.
Yes, that's a very large move, but the biggest one comes at the end of this month when the company transports a heavier piece of equipment.
"That's going to be a little trickier because that's quite heavy, to be able to get it up onto the truck and get it out," Ross said.
The planer weighs around eight tons.
"That's just large, bulky and heavy," Tompkins said.
All 60 truckloads are being moved in phases so employees can still do work. The company expects to be moved in by the end of February.
