SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. — "We raise our voices loud and clear! We raise our voices loud and clear! We won't stay quiet any longer! We won't stay quiet any longer," chanted Claire Kempes a member of Schuylkill Indivisible and Schuylkill County Democratic Women's League.
Kempes said one of their goals was to make sure every woman's voice is heard and included.
"We didn't want to endorse candidates, but we need people to become educated and informed about what the candidates represent and who they will stand for," said Kempes of Pottsville.
Ronna Dewey, The Pennsylvania program director for Red Wine & blue, was invited to be the keynote speaker at the rally. She says women's voices and power are often underestimated in the political world, and rallies like this one serve as a reminder.
"When women use their voices, that we will see a better world for our children and our grandchildren, and that's why I think it's so important to be here, and be here for International Women's Day and the count us in rally," said Dewey.
Among the candidates attending the rally, history teacher and politician John Zugarek attended with his wife. He says that because half of the population is women, supporting them is a huge part of creating a community.
"My wife is strong, she is determined. She is caring, and I'm here to support her and women like her," added Zugarek.
Dewey, keynote speaker in the rally reminds those attending of one thing she says we can.
"Change the world one community at a time. Because that's the power of women. Thank you," added Dewey.
