SHENANDOAH -- One day after a state of emergency was declared in part of Schuylkill County, people are still waiting for their water to come back on.

10 days is a long time. It's an even longer time for people like Jessica Hernandez. She has been without water throughout it all with her three children.

"It's really hard for me cause they want to go to the bathroom or they want me to cook. I can't do anything without water," said Hernandez.

Newswatch 16 was in Shenandoah Friday, and no crews were found out working then or now.

The mayor tells Newswatch 16 that the water authority is bringing in equipment to help better handle thawing all the frozen pipes.

Borough leaders say the small number of crews and "financial difficulties" forced them to declare this state of an emergency.

People in Shenandoah say they're not surprised by the state of emergency announcement, but they hope it will help lead to everyone in the community finally getting their water back.

"It should have been a state of emergency. The water department should have helped out a little bit," said Eddie Adams, Freedland. "Quick to turn water off but wasn't any help out here."s

Adams is one of the lucky ones. He got his water back Saturday after a week without it.

"I had to go and actually go to a hotel and pay for a room so I could get water and stuff like that," said Adams.

With five kids, he says he's relieved his water woes are over and he wishes that everyone could get back to normal.

"It's like heaven. It's good. It's good. It's real good," said Adams.
