POTTSVILLE, Pa. — Storefronts in downtown Pottsville are now decorated for the holidays, including New Life Thrift Store on Centre Street.
The thrift store is also a non-profit helping those in need year-round.
Workers say that mission rings especially true this time of year.
"We have the tops. Christmasy. Christmas themes. That, to me, could be like definitely, ugly sweater, christmas, right, contest? Probably would win in my book," said Bettina Schaeffer, Sales Clerk, Personal Stylist.
But the store isn't just offering discounted clothes and accessories.
New Life thrift store, which also has a location in Berks County, donates all proceeds to various charities throughout both counties.
"We want to help as many people as we can with the money we raise, so when we landed with them, we realized how many people these people actually reach. It's a lot," said Kimberly Pace, Manager New Life Thrift Store.
Some of those groups include helping harvest food pantries.
"I think last October, they were able to feed 300 families, and this is huge. Unfortunately, the amount of need is there and has been increasing," said Bettina.
Workers say this mission wouldn't be possible without the help of every person who donates to the store.
"This is the elves' workshop. All of it, these boxes they are already filled for donation for 2025 for the summer," added Bettina.
But these elves work year-round to support that same community that supports them.
