MAHANOY CITY -- A teacher faces DUI and other charges after police say she crashed into a light pole and resisted arrest on Christmas Eve.

Mahanoy City police filed charges Friday against Bridget Pollack, 35. The charges include driving under the influence, driving without a valid license, resisting arrest, and having an open container in the vehicle.

According to the Mahanoy Area School District website, Pollack is a Social Studies teacher at the high school.

According to court papers, police say Pollack was drunk Wednesday night when she crashed her SUV into a light pole along East Centre Street in Mahanoy City. The pole, with live wires exposed, fell onto a house.

Police say Pollack drove away, but a witness followed her until she pulled up on the sidewalk along another street. That's where police found Pollack sitting in the SUV.

According to court papers, police found an open bottle of wine in the vehicle. They also learned that Pollack's driver's license had expired almost two years ago.

When police asked Pollack if she had been drinking, they say she replied, "I'm drunk. I've been drinking all day." She continued, "Can't you just let me go... I'm a teacher. I will lose my job for this."

Police say Pollack then struggled with officers when they tried to put her in handcuffs and take her to the police station and then to the hospital, where they say Pollack refused a blood-alcohol test. Police say they eventually had to use a stun gun on Pollack before taking her back to the police station in Mahanoy City.
