SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. — Schuylkill Haven Area High School students have been busy raising rainbow trout in their biology classes this year.
On Tuesday, they were released into Bear Creek near Summit Station.
According to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, uncontrolled logging and unregulated coal mining have cut down on the number of these fish.
"We are just giving back to the environment; we are releasing trout; we had 162 fingerlings and 50 adult trout that were released at different spots along the stream to really give back to the environment and stock the rivers for people that are fishing them," said Christopher George.
Tuesday's event was part of the statewide Trout-in-the-Classroom program with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
