SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. — Welcome to the Soup-er Bowl. We're not talking about football here. We're talking about soup and bowls.
It's the 4th annual Soup-er Bowl at the Walk-in Art Center in Schuylkill Haven.
For twenty-five dollars, people picked out their favorite handmade ceramic bowl and enjoyed some soup.
The event benefits the art center every year.
Executive Director Jacklyn Engel got the idea from a yearly event in her hometown -- Williamsport.
"I moved here, and where I come from, they do it every year. They have like 1500 people that come to it. It's crazy," said Jacklyn Engel, Executive Director at Walk In Art Center.
Engel expected about 150 people to participate here this year.
Volunteers started making the bowls this past fall, making more than 300 bowls.
Debbi Gilbert alone made 70 bowls for the event just last month.
"So there's a process where you let things rest and relax and then do the next step and then the next step," said Debbi Gilbert, a volunteer.
They're already looking ahead as volunteers have already started making bowls for next year's event.
"It's grown every year. People hear about it, and they're like, oh, I didn't know we did this kind of thing. I actually wrapped a bowl for a lady who said just that, and so she'll be back next year," added Engel.
Participants can shop for a variety of bowls at the Soup-er Bowl. There's even an imperfect creations table.
Engel hopes more and more people will come each year to have their pick at unique bowls and soup before the actual Super Bowl weekend begins.
