TAMAQUA, Pa. — A man is dead following a crash early Monday morning in Schuylkill County.
A vehicle struck a pedestrian around 4:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of East Broad Street in Tamaqua, borough police said. Officers who responded found a man dead in the road.
The driver who struck him stayed at the scene of the crash and cooperated with the police.
An investigation of the crash remains ongoing by borough officers and state troopers in the State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit.
The identity of the deceased pedestrian was not immediately available. The police said they're working with the Schuylkill County Coroner's Office to confirm his name.
The crash shut down state Route 209 between Tamaqua and Coaldale for about 2½ hours. The road reopened to traffic at about 7 a.m.
