POTTSVILLE, Pa. — The city of Pottsville will be without a new mayor after his swearing-in ceremony was postponed.
Councilman Mark Atkinson is currently serving as Acting Mayor of Pottsville and was set to be sworn in Wednesday afternoon at City Hall.
That's where city council was scheduled to vote in public on the mayor position.
Atkinson tells Newswatch 16 that an emergency order granted by a judge halted the ceremony.
"At this time, there will be no appointment to the mayor position until after the public hearing occurs at the Schuylkill County courthouse on November 6th," said Councilman Mark Atkinson, Acting Mayor of Pottsville.
Pottsville's previous mayor, Dave Clewes, resigned earlier this month due to ongoing health issues.
