SHENANDOAH — A man accused of raping and getting a 12-year-old girl pregnant will spend 24 to 48 years in prison.
Hector Rico, 34, of Shenandoah was sentenced Monday in Schuylkill County. A jury found him guilty of rape in June.
The victim’s mother reportedly discovered the abuse after her daughter had a positive pregnancy test.
Shenandoah police were also tipped off by a social worker from Massachusetts who reported a man from Shenandoah was looking to get an abortion for his 12-year-old girlfriend.
Authorities say Rico is in the country illegally, and once he serves his sentence, he’ll face deportation.
