Flames tear through barn at Schuylkill County dairy farm

Crews were called to the place along Mountain Road in Walker Township, near Tamaqua, around 4 a.m. Saturday.

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. — A fire burned through a Schuylkill County dairy manufacturer's storage facility early Saturday morning.

The fire at Leiby's Dairy on Mountain Road in Walker Township broke out around 3:30 a.m. Multiple fire departments responded to get the fire under control.

Jack Riegel, the general manager of Leiby's Dairy, said the burned barn was a storage facility for packaging material and old equipment. The dairy business should be up and running again within a few days.

The barn is a complete loss and the damage is estimated at more than $1,000,000.

No one was injured in the fire.

A state police fire marshal is investigating what caused Saturday morning's barn fire in Schuylkill County.
