SUMMIT STATION -- It might be the end of July, but Mother Nature may not have gotten the message.

The weather felt more autumn-like at the Schuylkill County Fair Tuesday, where some people bundled up in sweatshirts and jackets.

"This is an interesting phenomenon that we have this beautiful weather in August, going into August," said Fair President Paul Kennedy. "We are typically so hot, we don't know what to do with it. We're usually running misters for the crowds, misters for the animals, we have no misters on, the fans are on a light breeze in the barns. It's very unusual."

The 31st annual fair in Summit Station drew about 28,000 people last year. This year with the cooler weather, organizers said they may have even more folks stop by.

"I think it's nice. I mean we had a really warm couple days this past week so it's refreshing and seems like the crowd is here, so that's a good thing," said Charles Vascavage of Shenandoah.

"It's really chilly for July. I thought for sure that I wouldn't have to put pants on my little baby but I had to find some because it's so chilly," said Holly Colihan of Minersville, who was there with her newborn son, Jack.

The fair favorites: entertainment, rides, and food drew crowds. Despite the cooler weather, even ice cream proved popular.

"It's the best. It's still summer," laughed Lori Azbel of Saint Clair.

The fair in Summit Station runs through Saturday.
