SHENANDOAH, Pa. — State police say an officer shot and killed someone early Monday morning in Schuylkill County.
It happened on the 300 block of West Coal Street in Shenandoah.
Troopers say Shenandoah and Mahanoy City police were called to the home for reports of a burglary just after 12:30 a.m. Monday.
When officers went inside, someone lunged at them with a knife. An officer from Shenandoah police opened fire, hitting that person, according to state police.
Troopers said Bryon David Scheuring, 32, from Shenandoah, was pronounced dead by the coroner.
"If someone pulls a knife on a cop, they're going to get shot. You don't bring a knife to a gunfight, and you don't pull the weapon on a cop. The area's been going down, sadly. They are trying to build it up, and I hope it happens," said Danny Brunette, neighbor.
The deadly shooting remains under investigation in Schuylkill County.
