MAHANOY CITY -- Dozens came out Wednesday as crews dug out a fire truck lost to a fire in Schuylkill County.
A burned fire truck was slowly removed from the Washington Hook and Ladder Company in Mahanoy City. The truck was ruined and the fire house wrecked by a fire last month.
The blaze is something Darlene Kuflovich will never forget.
"That also was scary because when we came out it was not fully inflamed or that, and when the windows blew out of the garage doors, that was scary and we were feeling the heat from the fire over here."
As crews slowly and carefully maneuvered the truck out, a crowd gathered.
"I didn't even know they were doing it. I was taking a walk around town and I just noticed that there was a crowd here. I didn't even know they were doing it," said Dave Dolbin.
Word spread quickly about the event and there were plenty of people and firefighters taking all kinds of pictures. The loss of the piece of firefighting equipment had emotions running high.
"It's an incredible sight. I am holding back some tears, it was a beautiful truck, it meant a lot to this fire company," said Washington Hook & Ladder Company Chief Mike Matunis. "It's a great loss and my heart is broken right now."
"I would like to cry, it's sad. The guys worked hard to get it," said Lois Davis.
