Community rallies around K-9 officer diagnosed with cancer

K-9 Sgt. Mondel Lindsay was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of stomach cancer.

FRACKVILLE, Pa. — A group of correctional officers in Schuylkill County are raising money to try and help a coworker diagnosed with cancer.

State prison workers set up a spaghetti dinner fundraiser Sunday at Elks Lodge in Frackville. They are trying to raise money for K-9 Sgt. Mondel Lindsay who was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of stomach cancer.

Attendees chowed down and tried to win raffle prizes.

Lindsay is recovering from a round of chemotherapy and couldn't attend the event in person, but he dropped by in a video chat to say hello.

"Going through this journey here, there's a lot of good people I realized as reaching out to me that it gives me hope for people in general. It's beautiful, very beautiful," Lindsay said.

Organizers say they sold somewhere between 125 and 150 plates of food at the fundraiser in Schuylkill County.
