NORWEGIAN TOWNSHIP -- A practicing attorney is in custody, accused of a bank robbery in Schuylkill County.
It happened at the Wells Fargo bank at the Fairlane Village Mall near Pottsville.
The man accused of robbing that bank is an attorney in Carbon County.
Steven Cormier of Nesquehoning was arraigned at a magistrate's office in Pottsville. According to his LinkedIn page, he's been practicing law for 31 years.
State police cruisers surrounded an entrance of the Fairlane Village Mall near Pottsville just moments after police say a man robbed the Wells Fargo bank inside the mall.
"How the heck did they get in in the first place and no one really notices that this is going on?" asked Gloria Dolce of Minersville.
Authorities say the robber tried to leave the mall in his getaway car, but Pottsville police found him before he could get far.
People who were shopping at the time say they're glad police caught the guy, but some say there should be more protection in malls that have banks to prevent robberies like this one.
"They should have a lot more security around and pat down people before they go into the banks and stuff like that," said Jairo Madrid of Shenandoah.
Many people who were shopping inside the mall at the time of the robbery say they had no idea anything was going on and they think that's pretty scary.
"It's terrifying," said Dolce. "You don't expect it because that rarely happens."
The bank inside the mall was closed for the rest of the day but the ATM outside was open.
"I guess nobody got hurt, so that's the best part."
