A woman dies days after a house fire in Schuylkill County

A woman who jumped from a window to escape a house fire on Jan. 2 in Schuylkill County died at the Lehigh Valley Hospital.

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. — A woman died from her traumatic injuries on January 4 at the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest after jumping to escape from a house fire in Schuylkill County.

According to the coroner, Joanne Rodgers, 53, jumped out of the 3rd story window after flames sparked on Tuesday on West Savory Street in Palo Alto just around 9:30 a.m. 

She and a man who was rescued from the 2nd story porch roof were flown to the hospital with injuries. 

Smoke surged from the home for hours while crews from across the county worked to put out the fire. Two other people, including firefighters, were also hurt and transported to the hospital for their injuries and are expected to be okay, according to Palo Alto Fire Chief Bill Buckingham. 

The building is gutted.

The investigation for the cause is ongoing.
