40th annual Heritage Festival held in Tamaqua

The 40th annual Tamaqua Heritage Festival returned Sunday with crafters, vendors, food, music, and more.

TAMAQUA, Pa. — An annual celebration in part of Schuylkill County.

Crowds packed downtown Tamaqua on Sunday for the borough's annual heritage festival. The local historical society has been presenting this street fair celebrating the town for the last 40 years.

Tents popped up along South Railroad Street hosting crafters, fundraisers and, of course, plenty of food. Musicians, a bounce castle and a clown were on hand to keep the little ones entertained.

For grown-ups, the ever-present election made an appearance. 16-year-old Grant Johns set up a tent to help people register to vote. He has registered about 50 voters the summer. He's doing this to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

"I'm very passionate about politics, and I think it's good for people to do their democratic duty and get out there and vote," said Grant Johns, Boy Scout Troop 777.

For those downtown, historic sites, museums, restaurants and shops were also open.
