WAYNE COUNTY, Pa. — While the weather outside was frightful, it did not stop shovelers, first responders, or even snowmobile riders from getting things done.
"My goodness, I was not expecting to have so much snow just on the road. It was kind of a surprise," said Jaden Gregory from Waymart.
It was a day spent with snow shovels in hand for Jaden Gregory of Waymart after waking up to nearly a foot of snow.
She and her family were out bright and early, trying to clear the sidewalks before getting to relax.
"Kind of just staying at home watching some movies. I mean, if neighbors need help, we'll come out and help, but not really going anywhere," added Gregory.
Safety officer at Waymart Volunteer Fire Company Matthew Swendsen says it’s now the calm after the storm.
"We’ve been preparing, we put chains on our trucks," said Swendsen.
He and other firefighters spent hours Saturday night and early Sunday morning clearing accident scenes caused by the snowstorm, and he says they are prepared to do it again.
"We have guys here at the station ready to go at any time, so when the call goes out, we’re out the door within two minutes," added Swendsen.
As many in Waymart continued to clear sidewalks and roadways, outdoor enthusiasts gathered in Susquehanna County at The Speakeasy Saloon and Resort to take advantage of the freshly covered snowmobile trails.
"Be prepared. Make sure you have oil in your sled, gas all the safety equipment on, and be warm," said Joe Aiello from Shavertown.
Down the road at Arlo’s Country Store, Charlie Lubold of Bucks County is soaking in all the snow after a long drive up Saturday night.
"It was a heckuva journey. I mean, it should’ve been a two-hour ride, took us about four and a half, and it was like snowmobile trails on I-80 the whole way here," said Charlie Lubold from Bucks County.
While the trip was long, Lobold says the perfect riding weather makes up for it.
"So far, it’s been fantastic. I mean, we weren’t expecting much, and now we have probably about a foot, so it’s great, and hopefully, we keep getting this kind of conditions," Lubold added.
