LITITZ, Pa. — Aviators will be buzzing around Manheim Township throughout the weekend, as the Lancaster Airport hosts the Lancaster Air Show.
The event will feature pilots from around the country performing amazing stunts with variety of planes, such as modern military aircraft and World War II fighter planes.
“You see the world in a different manner than just driving a car down the road," said RT Dickson, a pilot in the Lancaster Air Show.
Dickson will be flying the World War II-era P-51, a plane he has flown in airshows for more than 13 years. He said he looks forward to showcasing the history of the aircraft in the sky.
“This airplane shot down more enemy aircraft than any other Allied aircraft during World War II," said Dickson. "It’s a privilege and an honor to be able to keep this history alive. That’s what we’re trying to do.”
People who come to the airshow will not only see planes race across the sky, they will also see jet cars race on the tarmac.
“On the runway here, I’ll be running just over a quarter mile, so I’ll just be touching 300mph," said Bill Baraack, who is the driver of the jet car.
Baraack said he will be racing his car against one of the planes during the show. He said the race will last less than six seconds.
“Once I’m running down the runway, keep your eyes on us because it will be over before you know it," said Baraack.
Pilots spent the day on Friday practicing their runs in order to put on the show of a lifetime this weekend.
“It’s exhilarating, it’s fun, and it takes a lot of practice to get where we are here," said Dickson.
The show will be running from September 7-8 from 10 a.m. -4 p.m. at the Lancaster Airport.
