Thousands still face power outages on Monday morning

Newswatch 16's Andy Palumbo has the latest numbers on how many homes and businesses remain in the dark on Monday morning.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — Although much of Friday’s snow has melted away, problems caused by the storm remain on Monday morning.

Newswatch 16's Andy Palumbo has the latest numbers on the outages.

Thousands of people face their fourth day stuck in the cold and the dark.

Heavy, wet snow Thursday night into Friday brought down trees and power lines, so the scenes repeated for days.

Tree trimmers spent the weekend removing trees and limbs.

Electric company workers then had the task of getting the wires back up. They've made a lot of progress.

On Sunday morning, PPL reported that about 20,000 homes and businesses had no service, while FirstEnergy put its numbers at around 10,000.

Volunteer fire companies opened their doors over the weekend, serving as warming centers, places to take a shower, and places to charge phones.

Here is the latest: PPL is down to about 6,000 homes and businesses.  FirstEnergy puts its number at about 3,500.

The problem areas remain Susquehanna, Wayne, Pike, and Wyoming counties.

The big question for Monday morning is when the work will be complete; the new estimate is 11 p.m. on Monday, and WNEP will keep those outage numbers updated.
