After a summer's worth of construction, Interstate 84 in Pike County is back to four lanes.

And considering the travel situation Wednesday the completion of the construction is happening just in time.

The hustle and bustle is about to start through the I-84 corridor, east and west, in Pennsylvania and New York

And just in time for the busiest travel day of the year, the stretch of interstate in Pike County across New York state is no longer down to one lane. Cars and trucks will have the full two-lanes both ways to get to and from Thanksgiving destinations.

"Thankful for that, God bless them. It was a long, long time coming. A lot of traffic, people in Milford do appreciate it is opening up and we can travel a little bit," said Gail Darcy of Milford.

As recently as a week ago, PennDOT re-opened all lanes on the interstate and drivers have taken notice.

"It was sort of alternating, you'd drive in the left lane, drive for a little bit, then it would close off, like that for a few miles," said Beth Nguyen of Massachusetts.

For months on end because of construction, Interstate 84 in Pike County and over the New York line, been down to one lane. Now the holiday season's here, both lanes are back open, and it's smooth sailing.

Except for one spot: Until early next month, PennDOT officials said the eastbound bridge over the Delaware River will stay just one lane meaning there could be some backups on 84 going into New York this holiday.

And then there's the snowstorm coming, expected to pile-on already busy days of travel.

"It's just going to be awful, with weather and so many people traveling, they're not going to achieve anything. People are going to get stopped and cranky, then traffic accidents, not going to be good," said Katie Emery of Maine.

The main reason that PennDOT is urging holiday travelers to allow plenty of extra time to get where they're going.
