Homes, businesses in Pike County still in the dark

There are families going on day four without power after that November storm took down trees and power lines across northeastern Pennsylvania.

PIKE COUNTY, Pa. — Most of the snow that fell in Pike County on Friday has melted, but the folks who live here won't soon forget.

"I never had problems like this! I never had power out, like, maybe for a couple of hours, but you're talking days here," said Roger Deetscreek, Lackawaxen Township.

Four days, to be exact, without power after the wet, heavy snow broke branches and tore down power lines all over this part of Lackawaxen Township.

"I can't blame the power company for the storm; I can't do that; it'll just drive me crazy," said Tom Marchese, Lackawaxen Township.

Tom Marchese is one of the lucky ones. A generator is keeping the lights on and a wood stove provides heat.

Donna Oriani has neither, "It's going to be a weird Thanksgiving, for sure, a very weird Thanksgiving," she said.

She had just done her Thanksgiving grocery run before the storm hit. The turkey's now spoiled, so she and her neighbors are improvising, "Probably ham steaks on the wood stove either at the next-door neighbors or across the street."

The wild weekend of no power has, however, given her something unexpected to be thankful for, "People with propane are offering to boil water, make coffee, everybody's going around in the community checking up on each other," said Donna.

They'll all be really grateful if the power company comes through on their promise to restore power by the end of the day.

"I'm praying, I'm praying every night; please let them get the power back on," added Donna.
