PIKE COUNTY, Pa. — A 53-year-old man was injured after an explosion Thursday in Delaware Township, near Birchwood Lakes in Pike County.
According to a State Police news release, crews received a report of an explosion on Beech Road around 12:45pm.
When they arrived at the scene, first responders located the man in his garage with severe injuries to his upper body.
The man was airlifted to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest, where medical staff examined him and found that his injuries were "not caused by electrical factors".
The news release states that the explosion was determined to have been inadvertent. The victim had been collecting scrap metal and had been mixing live primers with other scrap metal in a bucket, which ignited and led to the explosion.
The investigation included the State Police, the FBI, and the ATF. Officials say there was no criminal intent, and no ongoing danger to the public.
Officials have not released the name of the victim and further details on his condition were not available.
