SUNBURY, Pa. — Lisa Shosh kept her head down as she walked into district court in Sunbury on Monday.
Police say the 54-year-old from Northumberland stole more than $130,000 from people with disabilities, including social security money.
The thefts allegedly occurred over a four-year period from the ARC Susquehanna Valley in Sunbury, where Shosh was employed.
The ARC Susquehanna Valley is a nonprofit organization that provides programs and services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
According to court papers, Shosh wrote hundreds of checks to herself and used a rubber stamp to forge the director's name.
According to ARC, Shosh was employed there for about four years and was fired earlier this year.
A spokesperson for the nonprofit said, "This is a horrible situation that was executed by a person we trusted, and that trust was broken. We will continue working with authorities to review procedures and put in place any recommendations to ensure this does not happen again."
Lisa Shosh was taken to the Northumberland County Prison and faces more than 230 felony counts of forgery.
Shosh told the judge she currently cares for her daughter, who has intellectual and physical disabilities.
