SHAMOKIN -- Heavy smoke and flames covered four houses on East Sunbury Street in Shamokin Monday night.

"When I looked out my front window, I saw flames from something, but I thought it was this house here. I told my roommate to get up because there was a fire next door," Ray Peacock said.

The fire displaced six people.

Investigators believe the fire is suspicious.

Gerald Pees lives a few doors down and saw two people walking in and out of the house right before the fire.

"I found that a little weird because he kept looking at me. They got in the SUV and just drove away. Within the hour that house went up in flames," Gerald said.

Police say the fire started at 26 East Sunbury Street, the same house where they broke up a meth lab last week and charged April Weit and Joshua Reichenbach with the drug crime. Reichenbach is in jail, Weit is not.

Investigators are trying to figure out if the meth lab and fire are connected.

Because these houses are so close together, firefighters did not want to take a chance. They evacuated the entire block.

"We have my mom in here. She's 78 years old. She's wheelchair bound. We have my wife's mom in here. She's a double amputee. We had to get her out," Gerald said.

"And we had one neighbor say, 'Hurry! It's going to blow! Get out!' That even put more emphasis on it to get them out because we knew that there had been a meth lab," Robin Pees said.

Police say the fire started on the first floor of the house and they took evidence from the home to the state police crime lab. Police are investigating the fire.
