SUNBURY, Pa. — A man from Northumberland County has been sentenced to state prison for killing his mother.
Christopher Depka, 41, of Coal Township, was sentenced to 20 to 40 years on Monday.
Depka pleaded guilty in September to third degree murder.
Investigators said Depka beat his mother to death with a baseball bat in November of 2021 at their home in Coal Township.
Police went to the home on West Holly Street to do a welfare check. When police got there, they found Sarah Jones, 61, dead in an upstairs bedroom. Her body was wrapped in blankets, and there was blood spattered on the walls and ceiling. Police also found an aluminum baseball bat in the house. When police got there, Depka was trying to rip up the floor. He was arrested on drug charges and later charged with his mother's murder.
Depka said nothing during or after his court appearance.
