Central Pennsylvania sees early-morning snowfall

Some of our western counties saw more than an inch of snow. Newswatch 16's Nikki Krize spoke with drivers who were surprised by the snowy weather.

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — Snow was steady all morning across parts of central Pennsylvania.

The Stormtracker 16 team measured the first inch of snow in the WNEP backyard.

Newswatch 16 captured dashcam video of a crash outside Montoursville, one of many throughout the area.

"It was awful," said Caitland Bolick of Wapwallopen. "It was absolutely ridiculous. There were cars on the side of the road. There were accidents everywhere. It was really slick out."

Bolick had a doctor's appointment in the Danville area. It wasn't snowing when she left her home in Wapwallopen Thursday morning.

"It wasn't too bad until we hit about the Danville exit, and then as soon as you got off, it was just a nightmare. It took me probably 30 minutes to get just across the bridge."

Jean Vankirk of Sunbury works the third shift.

"It started to snow about 3 a.m. We're out in the country, not too far out. Then I looked, and oh, gosh. Don't drive the SUV, not unless you have a big brush to brush it off because it's hard to clean!"

Plow trucks were out clearing the roads.

"We have a school by our house, so it was pretty clear. Now our back roads, we live in a development, they did clean some, but it kept on snowing," Vankirk said.

Ashley Good of Northumberland was meeting some friends. She made sure to drive slowly.

"I left this morning, woke up, and didn't expect this. Everybody is running late, of course, and now I am just getting a coffee and going to this store for a little bit till they're over here."

While this was the first accumulating snowfall for many this season, most of the snow melted by midday.
