NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — If you're driving through Snyder, Union, or Northumberland Counties between now and Christmas, you may come across some of Santa's helpers on the road.
"This year already up through Allenwood, down as far as the far end of Selinsgrove, through Turbotville, through Sunbury, through Norry—pretty much anywhere the gas takes us," said Matt Ferry, aka Scooter Santa.
Ferry has been doing this every Christmas season for about 12 years.
"It started as a joke. We just rode out, having fun, waving to people, handing out lollipops and stuff to the kids. It grew from there," Ferry said.
On weekends his friends join him, handing out candy to kids and lottery tickets to adults.
"On and off, you'll see a dozen of us riding. A Grinch, Mrs. Claus, Jack Skellington, they all go," Ferry said.
"I think it's amazing. I think it's a great outreach to the children," Alisa Poust said.
Alisa Poust and her 3-year-old daughter Everley were excited to see Scooter Santa.
"Just wonderful and a delight for them to see. We were going into the pet store, and we saw Santa riding around, so we came back out just to see Santa," Poust said.
Scooter Santa says he and his friends will be riding until Christmas Day.
