Northumberland County business having 2nd annual Susquehanna Valley Scavenger hunt

Newswatch 16's Mackenzie Aucker shows us how it works.

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — When you visit T-Ross Brothers Construction in West Chillisquaque Township, you may notice people asking for a free deck of cards. It's all for the company's second annual Susquehanna Valley Scavenger hunt

Marketing manager Robert Tomlinson created the game to familiarize more people with the company and unite the community.

"I came up with a scavenger hunt that I did last year, and this year is kind of a continuation of that, but this year we're using playing cards," said Robert Tomlinson, marketing manager at T-Ross Brothers Construction Inc.

Here's how it works. You can pick up the cards at the construction company or several locations throughout the area. The scavenger hunt covers Williamsport to Selinsgrove and Mifflinburg to Bloomsburg. Each card has a series of challenges.

"And when you complete those challenges by a specific date that's listed, then we'll send you a clue to coins, and they'll be coins throughout the area hidden, and when you find a coin, you'll be invited to a special event here at T-Ross December the 18th where you can win $2,000," explained Tomlinson.

In addition to other local businesses, the hunt covers historical landmarks and people!

"It's similar to an escape room because you're decoding and deciphering cryptic messages, and you're trying to find you know coins out in the community, so it's a really fun experience, said Tomlinson.

Above all, Tomlinson says it's a fun way to bring more people into area businesses this time of year.

"So you get to learn about your community. You get to learn about places maybe you've never tried, like a restaurant you never tried or a business you never went into, so it lets people discover their community and, best of all, discover themselves and their families," said Tomlinson.

The Susquehanna Valley Scavenger hunt runs through December 14th.
