A teacher at Shamokin Elementary School is accused of a hit and run that involved five teenagers.
Police in Northumberland County believe the man was drunk when he hit the teens Wednesday night and then kept going.
Five teenagers are now in the hospital and the driver faces DUI charges in that hit and run in Northumberland County.
According to police Victor Swaboski, a sixth grade teacher at Shamokin Elementary School, was behind the wheel Wednesday night when he hit the teenagers with his Jeep.
It happened in front of Mount Carmel Elementary School around 8:30 p.m.
An official from the Mount Carmel Area School District said three boys and two girls were walking and riding bikes on Fifth Street when they were hit.
Police said after the hit, Swaboski then took off with a bike still stuck in the grill of his Jeep.
"You know there were kids laying all over the place. I tried to assist them. They were in a lot of pain. I tried to hold them down until the paramedics got here," said witness John Matejick.
Mount Carmel police said Swaboski faces several charges, including assault by vehicle and DUI
He is being held in the Northumberland County jail on $100,000 bail.
The teens who were hurt are identified as Andrew Campbell, 16, and Seanna Zimmerman, 13, who were flown to Geisinger Medical Center near Danville, Tyler Wondoloski, 18 who was taken to Geisinger by ambulance, and Jarret Schultz, 17, and Chelsea Troutman, 14, who were taken to Shamokin Hospital.
