SUNBURY, Pa. — Two suspects are in custody after a man was shot a block away from the Northumberland County Courthouse on Thursday.
Officers found Dayveon Creel lying in the parking lot with a single gunshot wound just before 12 p.m. Many streets surrounding the courthouse were closed for hours Thursday afternoon while police investigated.
A trial was going on inside the courthouse at the time. Investigators are not saying if the shooting is at all related to that case. Police have not said if anyone is in custody. The names of the suspects have not been released.
"This is an active investigation by the Sunbury Police Department. Sunbury Police Department will release further updates as they become available; if anyone has any information on this incident, they're asked to contact the Sunbury Police Department," said Chief Travis Bremigen, Sunbury Police.
Creel was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. City hall, county buildings, and the county courthouse were locked down.
The courthouse in Sunbury will be closed Friday. Officials expect it to reopen on Monday.
The deadly shooting remains under investigation.
